Antennas: Specialized Components

While the antenna is often a key piece of any RF system, components between the radio or receiver and the antenna also play a crucial role in overall system quality or accuracy. Feed network or diplexer/filter contribution has long been recognized as critical by our team, leading to the introduction of unique products to maximize performance.

As a leading antenna manufacturer, and having manufactured Communication, Navigation and Identification (CNI) blade antennas with integral diplexers for many years, EDO offers a product line of high performance diplexers and filters suitable for airborne and ground-mobile applications. Our military diplexer product line is flight-proven on a wide variety of aircraft and is standard equipment on aircraft such as the U.S. Navy F-14, while our commercial diplexer product line flies on many general aviation, business jet, and air transport aircraft.

FM34 series of UHF/L-Band diplexerOur FM34 series of UHF/L-Band diplexers, for example, has been designed for the most demanding requirements, providing VSWR levels better than 1.2:1 and isolation levels in excess of 85 dB. Specific models within this series offer various connector options and RF power-handling levels. For VHF/UHF requirements, we offer our FM49 series of diplexers, which provide isolation levels in excess of 60 dB and VSWR levels of 1.5:1.

AIL also has a 25 year history of designing and manufacturing numerous Butler matrices with state-of-the-art performance. We have developed a wide variety of modeformer designs which cover the entire frequency range from 0.3 to 40 GHz. Our thick film etching expertise of the Advanced Integrated Components group (AIC) is one key element that enables us to produce low cost, high performance butler matrices. Utilizing statistical process control (SPC) we can repeatedly obtain extremely tight tolerances on one-half ounce copper . This enables us to significantly reduce our production costs without sacrificing performance by using relatively inexpensive thick film duroid instead of thin film alumina.
