The Navy and Marine EA-6B Prowler provides an umbrella of protection over strike aircraft, ships, and ground troops by jamming enemy radar, electronic data links, and communications. In recent years, the Prowler has proven its effectiveness by protecting our forces in Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom and other military actions. EDO is proud to produce the AN/ALQ-99 Tactical Jamming System, the primary mission payload of the Prowler.

EDO Corporation designed, developed, and produced the AN/ALQ-99, the first integrated, computer-controlled support jamming system. The AN/ALQ-99 receivers and antennas are on board the aircraft in the tail cap, and the exciters and jamming transmitters are in pods under the wings. The system intercepts and automatically processes radar signals and power manages its exciters and transmitters to jam diverse electronic threats with very high effective radiated power.

We have worked with the Navy since the 1970's to keep the AN/ALQ-99 current through continued logistics support including DMS designs and a series of planned product improvements.The Universal Exciter Upgrade (UEU) program has extended the frequency coverage while incorporating advanced jamming techniques and modulations to defeat each individual threat emitter.

These improvements will enable the EA-6B to fulfill its critical mission role well into the 21st century. EDO is currently developing advanced E/A concepts that will provide ever more capability and flexibility for support jamming applications.
