EDO develops and manufactures composite structures for the Aerospace, Defense and Commercial Industries.

EDO has built a reputation as a leader in the field of braided composite structures. Our capabilities have expanded beyond braiding to encompass synergistic processes including net shaped preform assemblies using braiding and woven fabrics, resin transfer molding (RTM) and vacuum assisted resin transfer molding (VaRTM).

Our experience covers a broad spectrum of materials and part sizes and shapes. We have completed numerous development projects that have led to full production programs. Over the years, we have developed proprietary in-house procedures for RTM, the design of RTM tooling and the processing of high temperature resins. We have found this experience to be a valuable asset in preform design. Factors such as preform debulking, tool closure, dimensional control, and fiber stability are important preform design considerations with which we are thoroughly familiar as a result of our RTM experience.

Our primary capabilities are:

Triaxial Braiding: The braiding process is one of the most practical and effective manufacturing methods available to the composite industry today.

Resin Transfer Molding-RTM: EDO has placed considerable emphasis on the development of in-house resin transfer molding for the fabrication of high performance structural composites.

Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding (VaRTM): VaRTM is a process wherein liquid resin is transferred into a dry fiber preform located in a mold cavity that has only a single sided tool surface using vacuum only. The VaRTM process offers several engineering advantages for certain classes of parts.

Full Rate Production Capabilities

We are proud of our success on various production programs that range from single parts per week to over 15,000 parts per year. The quality process at Fiber Innovations is certified to AS9100/ISO9001. Some of EDO Fiber Innovations’ production programs are as follows:
