ADS-B: ITT was chosen by the FAA as the lead systems integrator to develop and deploy the Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS-B) system, a key component of the FAA’s program to improve the nation’s air transportation system. ADS-B is to be the FAA’s next generation air transportation system’s primary means of surveillance. It will reduce the dependence on ground- based secondary surveillance radar systems by collecting GPS-derived position reports from aircraft and transmitting the data to ground stations. From there they the information will ultimately be relayed to air traffic control facilities to use for air traffic management.
