Network Systems

Network Systems: ITT’s is one of the largest network systems contractors to the Federal government. Focused as much on the practical areas of program management as much as the leading edge of technology as ITT’s innovative staff of engineers, scientists and managers provide the critical solutions that customers demand.

A sampling of the support that ITT provides to U.S. government agencies:

Space communications for next-generation manned space flights: With decades of experience in supporting space communications for NASA, the space agency turned to ITT to provide detailed spectrum and system engineering support for NASA’s next generation human spaceflight program, Constellation. ITT’s communications engineers will provide intensive analysis of mission requirements and the required communications spectrum, develop specifications for communications architecture and provide systems engineering for technology development.

Comprehensive support services for NASA’s Space Communications Network Services: NASA Goddard Space Flight Center selected ITT to perform telemetry, tracking and command services for near-Earth missions under the Space Communications Network Services (SCNS) contract. Under the SCNS contract, ITT will support NASA's Space and Near Earth Networks, which provide most of the communications and tracking services for a wide range of Earth-orbiting spacecraft, including the International Space Station, the space shuttle, the Hubble Space Telescope and the Earth Observing System satellites.

Critical communications analysis and support for NASA’s space and ground network: Since the late 1980’s, ITT has provided life cycle project management and system engineering support for many NASA Space and Ground networks, including NASA’s latest generation Tracking and Data Relay Satellites (TDRSS).

Demand access communications for low Earth orbiting satellites: To provide satellite operators with better communications access, NASA asked ITT to develop a system to provide continuous on-demand access. The technology created by ITT engineers – now an operational capability - allows multiple streams of low data rate communications to be beamed to multiple satellites simultaneously.

Communications spectrum management: To ensure that quality spectrum is available to NASA missions, ITT engineers fulfill important spectrum management roles. ITT engineers perform analyses on a variety of space communications topics including radio frequency interference, frequency sharing, power spectral densities, geographical distribution of interference, technology risk assessment, and visibility and network coverage.
