SWIMS was developed in response to a U.S. Navy requirement for a small, high speed, dual-influence (magnetic and acoustic) mine sweep system. SWIMS is an unmanned vehicle that can be either airborne or surface towed and is especially effective in sweeping littoral waters, including brackish and riverine environments. The SWIMS design permits it to be towed at high speeds (40 knots), drastically reducing sweep time. SWIMS provides an easily implemented, cost effective mine warfare solution to any Navy seeking to enhance their current capabilities.
