The Tail Warning Function (TWF) radar system is a pulse Doppler radar that detects the presence of approaching missiles in the tail region of the aircraft and initiates appropriate defensive countermeasures.

The TWF system successfully completed a rigorous Air Force operational flight-test program conducted at low altitudes and high speeds. During overland and overwater flight profiles, throughout these tests, the TWF radar exceeded specified missile detection rates with extremely low false-alarm rates.
