EDO AWARDED $3.6 MILLION NAVY ANTENNA CONTRACT
NEW YORK - May 13, 2003 - EDO Corporation (NYSE:EDO) has received an initial $3.6 million contract from Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) to manufacture radar antenna equipment. The antennas will be used on the U.S. Navy's Arleigh Burke DDG-51 class guided-missile destroyers. Initial deliveries will begin in approximately 24 months. If all options are exercised, the full value of the contract would be approximately $8.4 million.
The EDO antennas are an integral part of the Navy's AN/SPS-67 (V) 3 radar system. This Class A, C-band radar provides high-performance surface surveillance and navigation capabilities. Its ability to detect buoys and small obstructions makes it especially useful in navigating congested harbors. Although primarily designed for surface navigation, the radar system can also detect low-flying missiles.
"EDO has demonstrated to the Navy that we have the expertise to handle this critical project," said James M. Smith, EDO's chief executive officer. "We will draw on the in-depth design and development experience gained from two related SPS-67 antenna projects that have been successfully completed during the past ten years."
The antenna equipment will be manufactured by EDO's
Antenna Products & Technologies (AP&T) division at its Deer Park, N.Y. facility.
EDO AP&T designs and manufactures state-of-the-art antenna products for military
airborne, shipboard and ground-base applications from the 1 MHz to 40 GHz frequency range.
