EDO WINS INITIAL SUBCONTRACTS
VALUED AT $5.6 MILLION FOR
U.S. COAST GUARD RESCUE 21 PROJECT
NEW YORK - June 12, 2003 - EDO Corporation (NYSE:EDO) has been awarded subcontracts for initial phases of the Coast Guard's National Distress and Response System Modernization Project, renamed Rescue 21. The initial contracts are valued at $5.6 million, with a potential value of approximately $25 million over the life of the project.
Rescue 21 is intended to modernize
equipment used to locate and rescue distressed vessels along the U.S. coastline and major
interior waterways. When fully implemented, EDO will provide the interference mitigation
subsystem for more than 300 radio towers and 657 Coast Guard vessels.
Interference mitigation primarily involves canceling interference from other radio signals in adjacent channels. This improves the Rescue 21 system's ability to precisely locate a distressed ship by means of a radio signal, even of very short duration.
General Dynamics Decision Systems, the prime contractor and systems integrator
for Rescue 21, awarded EDO the subcontract for the radio tower equipment. BAE SYSTEMS,
which is providing the vessel communication systems, awarded EDO the corresponding subcontract
for interference mitigation equipment on the Coast Guard ships.
"Interference mitigation and related communications subsystems have been a part
of our core business for several decades," said James M. Smith, EDO's chief executive
officer. "We are proud to be providing this key enabling technology for Rescue 21,
as well as in other homeland security and military service communications systems."
The technical requirements of the contract include program management and
engineering services for the development of the Cosite Interference Mitigation Subsystems
(CIMS). EDO's Communications and Countermeasures
Systems division, formerly American Nucleonics Corporation, will produce the CIMS
units at its Simi Valley, Calif., facility. Equipment deliveries will begin in the second
half of 2003 and, when fully implemented, extend into 2006.
EDO Corporation provides products and professional services to the United States and
allied governments, and their prime defense contractors. EDO focuses on systems and subsystems

self-protect systems, and high-performance composite structures. The company also has
a number of high-performance commercial product lines. An aggressive acquisition program
is diversifying the base of major platforms and customers. EDO is at the core of the
