ADMIRAL NEWSOME TO LEAD
EDO's RECONNAISSANCE AND SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMS BUSINESS UNIT

NEW YORK - July 28, 2003 - EDO Corporation (NYSE:EDO) has named Rear Admiral Larry "Don" Newsome, who recently retired from the U.S. Navy, as vice president and general manager of its Reconnaissance and Surveillance Systems business unit, located in Morgan Hill, Calif. The appointment is effective as of Sept. 2.

"Admiral Newsome brings to EDO a distinguished military-service career combined with outstanding organizational ability and management skills," said James M. Smith, EDO's chief executive officer. "In addition to his active-service record, Don has more than 20 years experience in managing Navy programs and technology, including foreign military sales and export licenses. We are very fortunate to have him join the EDO team, as we strive to expand our role in the defense industry, both domestically and internationally."

Most recently, Newsome served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy, where he was responsible for international programs for the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. His responsibilities included foreign military sales, security assistance, international cooperative programs, disclosure, export licenses, and technology transfer. He managed a budget of several hundred million dollars and supervised more than 200 people. Prior to that, he has served in various executive positions, including Program Executive Officer, where he managed an annual budget of several billion dollars in procurement, and research and development funds.

Newsome has received numerous decorations for his military service. These include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit (five awards), Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Newsome's educational background includes a doctorate of business administration from Nova Southeastern University, a master of science degree in aeronautical engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School, and a bachelor of science degree in physics from Morehead State University.
