Arlington, Va. -- September 12, 2003 -- EDO Corporation (NYSE:EDO) ) has named retired Rear Admiral Joe Carnevale, age 53, as vice president and general manager of its Professional Services Division, located in Arlington. The appointment is effective as of Sept. 15.

Since April 2002, Carnevale has been serving as director of Army and Navy programs for AERA, Inc. AERA was acquired by EDO Corporation in February of this year, and has been consolidated with EDO's other professional services operations. Carnevale will manage the combined Professional Services Division, which accounts for approximately 20 percent of EDO's revenue and employs 800 people.

"Since joining us with the acquisition of AERA, the extent of Joe Carnevale's leadership ability has quickly become obvious to our management team, our business partners, and our customers," said James M. Smith, EDO's chief executive officer. "He has taken an active lead in key business development efforts, including the creation and implementation of advanced logistics concepts for use in Navy programs. Joe brings us solid management skills based on 30 years of military command, and we are pleased that he will now take the helm of our rapidly expanding services organization."

Carnevale's Navy service included extensive experience in ship design, acquisition, and construction, culminating in his assignment as the Fleet Maintenance Officer for the Atlantic Fleet. In this position, he was responsible for the material readiness of all Atlantic Fleet ships and aircraft, including recovery operations for the USS Cole. Prior to that, he was Program Executive Officer for the 21st Century Destroyer, which has been held up by the Navy as a premier example of acquisition reform, technology transfer, and cross-platform cooperation. Over the course of his career, he was directly involved in the construction of six different ship classes.

Carnevale's educational background includes an ocean engineer's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; a master of science degree in Naval architecture and marine engineering, also from MIT; and a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Massachusetts.
