EDO NAMED "QUALITY TEAM OF THE YEAR" BY CECOM
SIMI VALLEY, Calif -- December 5, 2003 -- EDO Corporation's (NYSE:EDO) Shortstop Electronic Protection System (SEPS) Special Mission Team has been named "Quality Team of the Year" for 2003 by the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM). The announcement was made by CECOM’s commander, Major General William H. Russ.
"The (EDO) team distinguished itself as a member of the Shortstop Electronic Protection System Special Mission Team," noted General Russ. "In anticipation of a critically needed capability to protect U.S. forces against booby traps and car bombs, this team designed, developed and fielded SEPS during Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. The spirit of cooperation among contractors, military and civilian personnel, and the selfless expenditure of time and energy in support of a team effort to deliver a quality product to the Warfighter have been inspiring. The EDO team’s accomplishments and outstanding performance represent the finest traditions of service and reflect great credit on them, this command, and the United States Army."
EDO’s team, led by program manager Wally Roman and based at the company’s Simi Valley, Calif. facility, worked closely with the Product Manager, Firefinder, U.S. Army Lt. Col. John Masterson, to complete the project on time, within budget, and with the highest quality rating of any other CECOM contractor during the period. The team working with Roman included Mike Chibnik, Cen Reyno, Vinod Saxena, Gordon White, Lou Horvath, and Byron Smith.
General Russ presented certificates of recognition to each team member at the annual CECOM award ceremony, held at Ft. Monmouth, N.J., on Nov. 21. EDO flew the team to New Jersey to accept the honor in person.
EDO’s chief executive officer, James M. Smith, added his congratulations to the company’s entire Simi Valley team, and stressed the importance of the SEPS project. "They were motivated by the urgency of delivering this life saving equipment to America's fighting men and women," said Smith.
