EDO INTRODUCES 'SABRE' FOR UAV WEAPONIZATION
Ultra-Lightweight Non-Pyrotechnic Stores-Carriage System
PARIS - June 14, 2005 - EDO MBM Technology Ltd., a business unit of EDO Corporation (NYSE: EDO) has launched a family of store carriage-and-release systems specifically developed for UAV platforms. Known as SABRE, it is a new generation of ultra lightweight, non-pyrotechnic, modular carriers.
SABRE
provides the capability to rapidly change the role of the UAV and deliver mixed weapon
loads. It has very low logistic requirements because no pyrotechnic consumables are used,
ensuring ease of deployment in rough field and out-of-area operations. Service is required
only on an annual basis.
The SABRE twin station weighs a mere 30 lbs (13.5 kg) and the triple station 40 lbs (18.7 kg), but each are capable of carrying up to 1300 lbs of stores. This facilitates 500-pound class & below weapons such as Paveway IV, JDAM, Viper Strike, Hellfire and other lightweight stores including dispensers, ground sensors, miniature UAVs, etc. It has optional on-board Mil-Std-1760 Class 2 electronics with miniature munitions compliancy providing individual targeting and release of each weapon.
SABRE’s new, non-pyrotechnic, eject release unit, itself weighing less than 4 lbs (1.8 kg), provides gravity or eject release up to 12 feet per second and also can be used stand alone as the parent pylon rack (1450 lbs store capacity) to further enhance LRU commonality.
For more demanding applications, EDO also offers higher-performance, pneumatic-powered store carriage-and-release systems for a wide range of unmanned air vehicles.
EDO MBM Technology Ltd produces weapon carriage and release systems, rugged portable computers and flexible circuits for the aerospace and defense industries.
SABRE is on display at EDO Corporation’s stand E9 in Hall 3 of the international Paris Air Show at Le Bourget.
