EDO HIRES MARINE CORPS LIAISON
NEW YORK - June 8, 2006 - EDO Corporation (NYSE:
EDO) has hired Roy R. Byrd as Vice President, USMC Relations. Mr. Byrd,
51, will play a key role in integrating EDO’s technical capabilities and opportunities
with the United States Marine Corps and serve as the focal point for new initiatives
and strategic planning. 
"Roy Byrd’s diverse military background will be invaluable in coordinating our expanding array of products and services to the Marine Corps," said James M. Smith, EDO’s chief executive officer. "He will ensure that we properly incorporate the needs of this important customer into the advanced military technologies that have been developed by EDO’s technical staff."
Mr. Byrd is a retired Marine colonel who has held numerous leadership positions throughout his 30-year military career. Most recently he served as director of the Security Cooperation Education and Training Center at Quantico, Va., where he coordinated all Marine Corps education and training programs in support of Department of Defense Security Cooperation Guidance and the Regional Combatant Commander's Theater Security Cooperation Plans.
From 1998 to 2001, Mr. Byrd served as a liaison between the Office of the Secretary of Defense and various military agencies, the White House and the National Security Agency. He also served as commanding officer at Quantico’s leadership institution, The Basic School, graduating 3,000 Marine Corps officers.
He earned his masters in National Security and Strategic Studies at the Naval War College and holds his B.A. in political science from Purdue University.
EDO currently serves the Marine Corps with two battlefield communications projects, JECCS and TSM, as well as professional services such as support of the Warfighting Laboratory at Quantico. The Joint Enhanced Core Communication System is a tightly integrated and multifunctional communication system mounted on a Humvee. Transition Switch Modules provide digital voice, data, and video communications to deployed Marine units. This equipment dynamically allocates bandwidth to handle the demanding needs of network-centric warfare.
