EDO TO PROVIDE ADVANCED COMPOSITES FOR F-35
NEW YORK - Nov. 6, 2006 - EDO Corporation (NYSE: EDO) has received a contract from Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) for the fabrication of precision, advanced-composite structures for the F-35 Lightning II aircraft program. The contract calls for the delivery of components for 14 aircraft.
The
order is valued at $1.8 million with delivery scheduled to be completed by December 2008.
The composite structures being produced by EDO will serve to ensure low-observable, or stealth, properties, while maintaining smooth aerodynamic flow.
"This is a significant contract for EDO because it allows us to demonstrate our composite-materials technology and engineering capabilities to Lockheed Martin and the Department of Defense," said James M. Smith, EDO’s chief executive officer. "Having a qualified facility meeting Lockheed Martin’s strict requirements will also improve our competitive position for additional composite structures."
The F-35 Lightning II program is expected to produce approximately 2,600 aircraft for the United States and United Kingdom, with many more orders expected from international customers. In addition to composite structures, EDO is developing pneumatic weapons-release systems and advanced antennas for the aircraft.
